The Christian blood thing is actually a common part of Norwegian folklore is they probably didnt realize it needed explaining to non-Norwegians. I assume it has to do that most European and Germanic myths (fairies, changlings, trolls) began to fade away as the Pagan religions were replaced with Christian. So in a way the trolls were driven out of society by Christians. Also Norway has a state church yet most are secular so their take on the subject is bound to be different than Americans.

Im not sure how to explain this, but in norwegian stories trolls can always smell christian blood, and they still can in this movie.
I guess you’d have to read some norwegian folk lore or whatever.
